By setting self-love goals, you can take actionable steps to live your best life.
There is no doubt that self-love is important. If you truly love yourself then you will live a happier, more fulfilled life.
Since then you aren’t chasing this fantasy of being someone else because you realize how awesome you are!
And to move forward with anything in life, it is helpful to set goals. To have a clear direction forward.
A road map of sorts.
The goal-setting process for self-love is no different than setting any other type of goal. You need to get clear about what you want and why you want it.
But first, let’s explore what self-love actually is.
What is self-love and why is it important?
Self love is accepting and loving yourself for who you are.
It’s about having a positive relationship with yourself. And it’s important because if you don’t love yourself, then you can’t fully love others.
Self love is also important because it’s the foundation of a happy and fulfilling life. You will never be truly satisfied because you are looking for happiness in all the wrong places. But when you learn to love yourself, you will realize that happiness comes from within.
It all starts with you and it starts with self-love. For more on self-love, check out this post.
How to set goals for self love
Now that we know the concept of self-love and why it’s important, let’s talk about how to set goals for self-love.
The first step is to get clear about what you want.
What are your specific goals? What do you want to achieve when it comes to self-love?
- Are you looking for ways to love yourself more?
- Do you want to be more confident?
- Do you want to start taking care of yourself physically, emotionally, and mentally?
Get clear about what your goals are.
The second step is to get clear about why you want these things. Finding your underlying reason why will help you to keep going when you don’t feel like it.
- Is it to be happier?
- To feel more fulfilled?
- Do you want to have better relationships?
Again, get clear about your specific reasons for setting these goals.
The third and final step is to take action. What are some specific things you can do to achieve your goals?
This is where it gets really important to be specific. If you need help setting specific, measurable, and attainable goals, think about setting SMART goals.
Since if you don’t create an action plan, it is going to be difficult to actually achieve your goals.
28 Great Self Love Goals to Set
Here are some examples of goals for loving yourself more. It’s important to tailor these so they are specific for you. You should also be more specific than what I wrote. Remember, you should make the goal measurable and time-bound.
1. Embracing the Imperfect
As someone who is a recovering perfectionist, this is one that is still a goal for me. One thing I constantly tell myself is that perfect is subjective.
What is perfect to me may not be perfect to you.
So think of some ways that you could embrace not being perfect this month. One thing I do is to post content regularly that isn’t ‘A++’ work. This saves me time so I can create more than just a blog post.
Another example is throwing a party. Can you accept that your home is perfect as it is and you don’t have to go crazy preparing for the party and actually enjoy it?
2. Realizing society’s standards are unrealistic
There are so many standards that society sets that are completely unrealistic. And we put so much pressure on ourselves to meet these standards.
One way to start meeting this goal is by unfollowing people on social media who make you feel bad about yourself. Instead, follow people from diverse backgrounds.
Another way is to reflect on what success means to you and see how aligned it is with society vs. what you actually want.
3. Step outside your comfort zone
One of the best ways to start loving yourself is by doing things that make you happy. And one way to find out what makes you happy is by stepping outside your comfort zone.
Could you try a new hobby this month? Or go on a trip by yourself? You could also try something completely different like skydiving or bungee jumping.
The key is to push yourself outside your comfort zone and see what happens. Is there anything pulling on your heartstrings but you want to sh!t yourself when you think about it?
Try it! You may surprise yourself with how much you enjoy it.
4. Become unapologetically yourself
This is a big one for me. I was constantly apologizing for who I am. I’m sorry I’m not more like this or that. More like society’s standards honestly.
I’m sorry I’m not thinner/prettier/smarter/more outgoing/louder. The list could go on and on. Until I was tired of living life hiding behind some kind of mask. It’s exhausting trying to be someone you’re not!
The ultimate way to do this is to listen to that inner voice. What is it saying? The good news is that voice is often trying to tell you who you really are. What makes you tick deep down. It’s the belief system you’ve been building your whole life.
5. Take a well-deserved break
We can’t constantly be on the go. We need to take breaks. And I’m not just talking about taking a vacation (although that is important too).
I’m talking about taking a break from your everyday life. Maybe you could take a weekend off once a month and go camping. Or take a day trip to somewhere you’ve never been before.
The key is to unplug from your everyday life and recharge your batteries. So make it a goal to take a break every month, or even every week. It doesn’t have to be a whole day. A few hours work too.

6. Be present in the now
As an ambitious woman, this one can be a hard one. You’re always planning your next move or trying to figure out how to move the needle forward towards your dream life.
And while there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s important to be present in the now too.
So next time you’re on a date with your partner or spending time with your family, put your phone away and enjoy the moment. Focus on living this month.
7. Accept the things you cannot change
There are some things in life that we just can’t change.
And that’s okay! We have to accept the things we cannot change and focus on the things we can.
A goal could be to make a list of everything you can’t control. Then for each thing on the list, ask yourself what you can do to work around it or make the best of it.
For example, if you can’t change the fact that you have to work long hours, what can you do to make the most of it? You could use your lunch break to take a walk outside or call a friend. You could also use your extra income to hire a cleaner or order takeout once in awhile so you have more time to relax.
8. Stop negative thinking and negative self-talk
This one is way easier said than done. We are constantly telling ourselves negative things.
And a lot of the time, we don’t even realize we’re doing it. One way to start catching yourself is by setting a rule for yourself.
For example, you could say that for one week you are not allowed to say anything negative about yourself. If you catch yourself saying something negative, replace it with a positive statement.
For example, instead of saying “I’m so fat,” you could say “I’m beautiful just the way I am.”
By doing this, you’ll start to rewire your brain to think more positively about yourself. It’s time to silence that inner critic and replace those negative thoughts with positive thoughts today!
9. Evaluate your relationships
We all have relationships in our lives. And some of those relationships may not be the healthiest for us.
It’s important to take a step back and evaluate the relationships in your life. Are there any toxic relationships that you need to cut out? Do you have any relationships that are one-sided?
It’s okay to end a relationship if it’s not healthy for you. You deserve to be in a healthy, happy relationship.
10. Set boundaries
Setting boundaries and saying no is a game-changer because it’s saying yes to things you enjoy more. It’s a way of taking control of your life and setting the tone for how you want to be treated.
One way to start setting boundaries is by making a list of things you don’t want to do anymore. For example, maybe you don’t want to work late nights or weekends anymore.
Then start setting boundaries around those things.
For example, if you don’t want to work late nights, start saying no to projects that require it. Or if this isn’t possible, start looking for a new job.
11. Eat Healthier
By incorporating healthy habits and eating healthier, it can have a huge impact on your body, mind, and soul.
When you eat healthy foods, your body feels good. And when your body feels good, your mind and soul feel good too.
One way to start eating healthier is by making a list of healthy foods that you enjoy eating. Then start adding more of those foods to your diet.
Or you can try to practice mindful eating and really listen to your body cues to be more connected with your own needs and how much food you need. Drinking more water is a huge help in decreasing that feeling of hunger.
Making small changes like this will make a big difference in your overall health.
12. Increase Body Confidence
Body confidence is so important for our mental health.
Unfortunately, a lot of us have a negative body image. Just think about all the negative things you have to say about your body.
One way to start increasing your body confidence is by setting a goal to love and accept your body just the way it is.
Yes, that means all the imperfections too! Start by looking in the mirror and telling yourself one thing that you love about your body. Positive self-talk is a great way to rewire your brain to think more positively.
Do this every day until it becomes a habit. You’ll be amazed at how much your body confidence will increase.
13. Declutter (your life, house, etc)
Decluttering is a great way to reduce stress and anxiety.
It’s also a great way to make your home or office feel more spacious and organized. One way to start decluttering is by setting a goal to get rid of one thing that you don’t use or need every day.
For example, if you have a lot of clothes, you could start by getting rid of one article of clothing that you don’t wear for a week.
Make it a goal to declutter your life and you’ll feel so much better!
14. Give yourself some grace
We are all human and we all make mistakes so it’s important to cut yourself some slack.
One way to do this is by setting a goal to forgive yourself. Forgive yourself and move on.
Don’t dwell on the past and don’t beat yourself up. Just let it go and give yourself some grace.
You deserve it!
Just remember 1% better every day. You’re going to make mistakes but as long as you learn from them and try again, you’re well on your way.
15. Stop comparing yourself to others
Comparison is the thief of joy.
When you compare yourself to others, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. One way to stop comparing yourself to others is by setting a goal to focus on your own journey.
Focus on your own goals and your own progress. Don’t compare yourself to anyone else because everyone is on their own unique journey.
You are exactly where you’re supposed to be.
16. Celebrate all your wins and write them down on a ‘win’ list
We often focus on our losses and forget to celebrate our wins.
One way to start celebrating your wins is by setting a goal to write them down. Every time you have a win, no matter how small, write it down on your ‘win’ list.
This could be anything from getting a promotion at work to finally decluttering your house.
No win is too small!
When you start celebrating your wins, you’ll feel so much better about yourself and your journey.
17. Find your passion
Finding your passion is a great way to increase your happiness and sense of purpose.
One way to find your passion is by setting a goal to explore new things. Try new things and see what you enjoy.
You never know what you might find!
When you find your passion, you’ll feel so much more fulfilled and better about your journey.
18. Learn Something new every day
One way to love yourself is by setting a goal to learn something new every day.
This could be anything from learning a new skill to reading a new book. As a human being, you’re ever-evolving and always changing. By learning something new, you’ll increase your sense of self-worth and feel more empowered by all the new knowledge.
Remember, a growth mindset is great for your mental health because you’ll feel empowered to make changes when needed.
19. Incorporate meditation (or mindfulness) into your routine
Mindfulness is a great way to focus on the present moment and appreciate what you have.
One way to be more mindful is by setting a goal to meditate or do some form of mindfulness every day.
This could be anything from listening to a guided meditation to simply taking a few deep breaths. There are many benefits to meditating so you should definitely try to add it to your daily routine.

20. Practice Gratitude
Gratitude is a great way to focus on the positive things in your life.
One way to practice gratitude is by setting a goal to write down three things you’re grateful for every day. This could be anything from your health to your family and friends. I try to write down three things I am grateful for every day in my gratitude journal.
When you make it a goal to practice gratitude, you’ll feel so much better about yourself and your journey.
21. Write in a Journal
Journaling is a great way to uncover some of those repressed emotions and thoughts. If you’re able to identify what is bothering you then you’re able to do something about it.
22. Talk to a Therapist
Therapy is a great way to work through your thoughts and feelings with a licensed professional.
It can also be a great way to learn more about yourself and have a positive impact on your life. A therapist can help you uncover those deepest darkest secrets.
If you’re feeling lost on your journey to self-love and your current issues are overwhelming, therapy could be the key to finding your way again.
23. Take a screen break
This could be anything from setting a daily limit on your screen time to taking a few hours off every week.
When you make it a goal to take a screen break, you’ll feel so much better about yourself because the temptation of comparing yourself to others isn’t there. It also gives you time to focus on what really matters and get things done.
It could even be as simple as taking a social media break. Instead of spending hours on social media, get some fresh air and go for a walk.
24. Read More
One way to love yourself is by setting a goal to read more.
This could be anything from setting a daily reading goal to reading a certain number of books in a month.
Taking the time to sit down and read a good book can have a huge impact on your mental health. It’s a quick escape from the world or a way to learn something new. I try to read for 20 minutes every day.
Reading is also a great way to unwind before bed!
25. Invest in yourself
One way to love yourself is by setting a goal to invest in yourself.
This could be anything from taking a class to starting your own business.
Your sense of self-worth will increase dramatically if you invest in yourself and start living the life you want to live.
I know I was hesitant to spend money on my business because I wasn’t sure if it would ‘make’ it but once I did, it gave me a huge confidence boost. It was proof to me that what I am doing is important and impactful.
26. Mindset work for self-discovery
If you take the time to unpack your limiting beliefs, then you can work on eliminating them for good! Taking the time to do this work (because believe me, it takes A LOT of time) is proof that you matter and that you deserve to be the happiest version of yourself!
This could be anything from reading self-help books to listening to motivational speeches. The self-love journey is not easy. You’ll need to spend some quality time with yourself to find out who you are and why you believe the things you do.
What negative experiences lead you to believe that you aren’t good enough?
27. Get your Body Moving
Exercise is so important for our physical and mental health.
When we exercise, our body releases endorphins, which have mood-boosting effects. Exercise is also a great way to reduce stress and anxiety.
One way to start exercising is by finding an activity that you enjoy.
For example, if you like to be outdoors, you could start by going for a walk or a hike.
Or if you like to be indoors, you could start by doing an at-home workout video.
It’s all about finding an activity you enjoy so that you will consistently show up and add it to your weekly routine.
28. Create a Self Care Routine
And last but certainly not least, create a self care routine. This can be anything from a bubble bath to a hike. All that matters is that it makes you feel recharged and that your cup is full again.
There are self-care Sunday routines as well but I suggest adding self-care to your everyday routine.
It’s a way to show yourself that you are important and matter.
You deserve to be taken care of!
Once you realize that you are worthy of unconditional love, then true happiness awaits. Personal development is something that should be worked on a daily basis. It helps you build a better relationship with yourself.
These are just some ideas but ultimately, it’s up to you what self-love goals you want to set for yourself. The key is to be clear about what you want to achieve and to take action! Because if you don’t take action, it’s just a wish!
Once you can fully accept yourself with unconditional love, you’ll be amazed at how much you can level up in life! I’m rooting for you girl!
