Ways to reset for the week ahead with these Sunday self-care activities
Self-care is becoming more relevant in today’s society which is a great thing! Everyone should be incorporating self-care into their daily lives. If you don’t know where to start, I suggest trying do to self care Sundays!
Sunday is already a day of rest and a day to connect with loved ones so why not connect with yourself as well? After all, you are the most important person in your life!
It may sound conceited but it’s true! We spend the most time with ourselves so it’s important to love yourself. That’s where self-love comes into play.
Self care is a great place to start when trying to build self love for yourself. It’s an actionable way to show yourself that you matter and that you deserve to be pampered.
So for those of you who have no idea where to start when it comes to self-care Sunday, you know I’ve got you covered.
In this post, there are 61 ideas you can try for self-care Sunday! I also created a simple Self-Care Sunday checklist for you to use so you can start spending some well-deserved quality time with yourself.
What does self care mean?
Self-care means anything you do to take care of your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It’s important to nurture all aspects of yourself!
It doesn’t have to be time-consuming or expensive (check out this post on free self-care ideas) but it is something that should be a part of your daily routine in some way. I’m sure you are currently doing some kind of self-care but focusing on intentionally incorporating self-care into your Sundays is a great starting point.
Remember, it’s all about the journey and we’re constantly evolving so, don’t beat yourself up if you don’t get it right the first time!
Why does self care matter?
Self care is important because it allows you to take a break from the stressors of life. It’s a way to show yourself that you matter and that you deserve to be taken care of.
It can also help improve your mood, increase your productivity, and boost your immune system!
Because when we take the time to refill our cup, we are able to show up better and be our best selves. If you don’t take the time to rest, you will end up burnt out!
It may seem selfish but you need to make sure your needs are met before you can help others!
Self-care is so important and we should all be doing it!
How does self care tie into self love?
Self-love is all about accepting all of yourself, even the ugly parts.
Self-love practices include:
- Self-Care (our own needs)
- Taking Care of Others (Needs of Others)
- Accepting Help and Care from Others (can be both our needs and the needs of others)
So self-care is a PART of self-love. That’s the difference between the two. It’s only a piece of the puzzle but it’s necessary if you want to live a happy and fulfilling life.
Just like on an airplane, we can’t help others until our oxygen masks are secure. Without self-care, you aren’t going to be able to fully show up for your loved ones and the people you want to help.
Self-care is the oxygen mask for self-love.
Benefits of having a self care sunday and why you should incorporate it into your routine
There are so many benefits to having a self care Sunday be apart of your routine! Here are a few:
- Can reduce stress
- Can reduce anxiety
- Increases confidence and self-esteem
- Can lower your blood pressure
- Gives you clarity
- It’s a good way to build resiliency
Self care sundays can help you mentally prepare for the following week and combat the Sunday scaries!
If you give yourself the time and space to relax and ensure your needs are met, you’re going to be in a better mental state to take on the rest of the week.
How to Create a Good Self Care Routine
A good self-care routine is all about what makes YOU happy and how to meet your unique needs. This is going to look different for everyone so ask yourself what brings you joy or fills up your cup?
For example, I am not a bubble bath person. However, many people love bubble baths and find them so relaxing.
What works for me may not work for you and that’s okay! We’re all unique individuals after all.
If you still aren’t sure where to start when creating a self care routine think of what do you do when you need to decompress?
It’s also good to incorporate some activities that are going to help you improve as a person in order to build self-esteem and resiliency. This could be journaling, doing some shadow work, or saying positive affirmations.
Tips on Creating a self care sunday routine
Simplicity is the way to go here, the easier the better! Otherwise, you aren’t going to want to follow it!
So here is what I recommend:
- Brainstorm what brings you joy and what you do when you need a mental boost
- Pick 2-3 self-care practices that you would like to do next Sunday
- Be realistic. If your Sundays are usually filled with errands and family time, try to schedule a 15 minute self-care activity instead one that is going to take a few hours. It doesn’t have to be a whole day thing!
- Schedule them onto your calendar for Sunday. Consider it an appointment you can’t skip!
- Evaluate and decide what you want to keep for next week and what you want to change
- Rinse and Repeat until it’s the perfect routine for you to feel recharged and ready to crush the week ahead!
I recommend grabbing a planner so you can keep yourself organize. I actually created one but you should find one that works best for you! Now that we know the importance of self-care sundays, let’s get to the good stuff- the 61 self care sunday ideas!
