Here are 11 tactical ways to build self-confidence
We all know that feeling confident is important, but it can be tough to boost our confidence levels.
Throughout my life, I’ve never been the most confident person in the room. My face turns red very easily and that has always been a huge insecurity of mine.
It wasn’t until I decided to embark on the personal development path of self-discovery that I truly became a more confident person.
If you’re someone who struggles with confidence, know that you’re not alone. We all have moments of self-doubt.
The key is to focus on building your self-confidence so that those moments become less and less frequent.
This journey is far from easy. It involves leaving your comfort zone and truly confronting all the limiting beliefs that have built up over the years. I’m not going to lie, this process is a little uncomfortable.
However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Follow these 11 tips and you’ll be carrying yourself with confidence in no time!
What is Confidence?
Before we dive into the tips on how to carry yourself with confidence, let’s first cover what self-confidence is.
Self-confidence means believing in your own capabilities, qualities, and judgment. According to research, confidence is important to one’s health and mental well-being.
Confidence can be defined as a general belief in one’s own mastery of life. This means that you believe in your ability to handle whatever situation comes your way.
A lack of confidence, on the other hand, is when you doubt your abilities and feel like you’re not good enough.
It’s important to note that there is a difference between healthy confidence and unhealthy arrogance. You want to boost your self-confidence to a level where you feel good about yourself without putting others down.
Why Does Confidence Matter?
Now that we know what confidence is, let’s talk about why it matters.
Your level of confidence affects every area of your life. It influences your relationships, career, and overall happiness.
Confidence is important because it allows you to go after your dreams and pursue your goals. It gives you the courage to put yourself out there and take risks.
If you don’t have self-confidence, this can lead to a life of missed opportunities. You may find that you are holding yourself back because you don’t think you’re good enough.
Confidence is also linked to success. There are countless studies that show that people who are more self-confident are more successful.
It makes sense that confident people are better able to achieve their goals because they believe in themselves. If you’re confident, you’re going to be more resilient so if there is a setback (and let’s be real, there are always setbacks), you’ll be able to recover easier and keep hustling.
So, if you want to be successful in life, it’s important to work on boosting your confidence levels.
11 Tips on How to Carry Yourself with Confidence
Now that we know the definition of confidence and why it matters, let’s get into the tips on how to be more confident.
1. Know Your Strengths
One of the best ways to boost your confidence is to know your strengths. When you know what you’re good at, you can focus on playing to your strengths. This will lead to you feeling more confident in knowing what value you bring to the table and being more willing to step up.
Think about the things that you’re good at and make a list. This can be anything from being able to speak in front of a crowd to being super organized.
Once you have your list, you can reference it when you have feelings of self-doubt or use it to find your true passion in life.
2. Be Aware of Your Weaknesses
While it’s important to know your strengths, you also need to be aware of your weaknesses. This is important for two reasons.
First, if you’re not aware of your weaknesses, they can get in the way of your success. For example, let’s say that you’re applying for a job that requires excellent social media skills and promoting a product in front of a group of people but you aren’t a fan of public speaking or social media.
If you’re not aware of these weak points, you might not realize that this job isn’t a good fit for you. The good news is that this awareness can help you create a life that is more aligned with what makes you feel good.
The second reason why it’s important to be aware of your weaknesses is that it gives you something to work on. According to Tony Schwartz, the CEO of the Energy Project, “the best way to build confidence in a given area is to invest energy in it and work hard at it”
Once you know what your weaknesses are, you can find ways to overcome them.
For example, if you’re not a strong writer, you can take some writing courses or practice writing more often. The more you practice, the better you’ll get and the more confident you’ll feel.
3. Celebrate All Your Wins
Another great way to carry yourself with confidence is to celebrate all your wins, no matter how big or small. This will help you to see yourself in a positive light and remind you of your accomplishments.
Whenever you achieve something, take a moment to celebrate. This can be something as simple as taking a break to enjoy your favorite food or buying yourself a new outfit.
4. Practice Positive Self-Talk
When it comes down to it, it’s all about mindset. The way you talk to yourself has a big impact on your confidence levels. If you’re constantly putting yourself down or telling yourself that you can’t do something, this is going to have a negative impact on your confidence.
On the other hand, if you’re using positive self-talk, this will help you to feel more confident. Whenever you catch yourself thinking or saying something negative, take a moment to reframe it in a positive light.
This is where positive affirmations can be extremely helpful and a great first step.
Take some time to think about what you want to achieve. Once you know what goals you want to achieve, then create a positive affirmation that will help you change your mindset to achieve it.
Say your affirmations to yourself every day, either out loud or in your head. The more you say them, the more they will sink in and the more confident you’ll feel.
5. Be Mindful of your appearance
While physical appearance shouldn’t be the end-all, be-all, dressing for success can be extremely helpful. Dress for your body shape and what makes you feel good! If you look good, you’ll feel good.
I know I feel more confident in my appearance if I get out of my sweatpants! So treat yourself like the true queen you are and buy some nice clothes!
One of the best ways to boost your confidence is to exercise regularly. Exercise releases endorphins, which have mood-boosting effects. In addition, exercise can help to improve your physical appearance, which can also lead to an increase in confidence.
To incorporate exercise into your routine for the long term, chose a physical of your choice and one that you actually enjoy. Consistency is key here.
7. Improve Your Communication Skills
Confident people are usually good communicators. If you want to come across as a confident person, it’s important to work on your communication skills. This means being clear and concise when you’re speaking and making sure that your body language is open and inviting.
Also, be mindful of the tone of voice you’re using. Good conversationalists lower the pitch of their voice, speak slowly, and are practicing active listening.
8. Practice Self-Care
Another important aspect of being a confident woman is practicing self-care. This means taking care of yourself both physically and emotionally. When you take the time to prove to yourself that you matter, then it’s easier to project confidence.
Make sure to eat a healthy diet, get enough sleep, participate in meaningful social gatherings, and exercise regularly. In addition, make time for activities that make you happy and try to surround yourself with positive people.

9. Be Mindful of Your Body Language
Your body language plays a big role in how confident you come across. If you want to instantly feel more confident, it’s important to be aware of your body language.
Some things you can do to improve your body language include:
- Relaxing your shoulders
- Standing tall (good posture is key!)
- Maintaining good eye contact
- Mindful Hand Gestures
- Doing a power pose
These all sound simple but it’s crazy how big of a difference they can make for your self-worth!
10. Listen to Your Gut
One of the most important things you can do when it comes to carrying yourself with confidence is to listen to your gut. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t do it.
In addition, if you’re ever in a situation where you don’t know what to do, trust your instincts. Often, the best course of action is the one that feels right in the moment.
If you trust your gut, you’re proving to yourself that your instincts are good and that you are more than capable to handle what is thrown your way!
11. Embrace Imperfection
Finally, it’s important to remember that no one is perfect. We all have flaws and that’s okay. The key is to learn to love and accept yourself, imperfections and all.
When you can do this, it becomes a lot easier to feel confident. Because you know that you’re just as deserving of love and respect as anyone else, regardless of your flaws.
To find your true self, you have to accept all parts of yourself. You will spend the most time with yourself so being your own best friend is critical when building confidence.
Carrying yourself with confidence is not always easy but it is possible. If you’re ready to take control of your life and build a more confident and fulfilling life, try practicing these strategies on a regular basis.
